Milt Chapman

Always the sunshine in any ensemble or gathering, bassist and singer Milt Chapman's varied career in show business began when he was in college, as a member of The Accidentals, and has continued non-stop right up to the present which finds him part of a trio on the glittering scene that Palm Springs and environs has become.

The Accidentals, a jazz-oriented vocal group, got their break when appearing on the bill with Johnny Mathis in 1956, and they went on to record and tour well-known nightclubs around the US for the next five years.

(A note for Accidentals fans: The group has reformed with the other  original members, and is currently appearing around San Francisco.)

In 1962 Milt Chapman joined The Gateway Trio with Jerry Walter and Betty Mann, recording and touring North America with them through the end of 1965 (including a featured spot in the movie “Hootenanny Hoot”).

Beside live appearances, Milt Chapman has worked extensively in television, films and on record.  His TV work has included an acting role on the situation comedy “Car 54, Where Are You?” and doing vocals on  the John Gary Show, Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour, Glen Campbell Show and Leslie Uggams Show. He's also backed Tony Martin, Teresa Brewer and  Kay Starr among many others.

From 1971-1974 Milt Chapman worked with a singing group called Climax which appeared with Kenny Rogers and Johnny Rivers. He spent the following three years with the Ray Conniff Singers, touring all over the world and appearing on two of their albums.

Life at sea took over then, and Milt Chapman spent the next two decades as a cruise line entertainer before making the California desert his stage.

Born September 9, 1939, Milt Chapman grew up in San Francisco and was educated at San Francisco State College. Besides the bass, he's fluent on trumpet, French horn, piano  and guitar.  Fans and friends are unanimous that his outstanding talents as musician, singer and arranger are  equally matched by his sparkling charm, intelligence and good-natured spirit.
